As a child, I remember all the ladies, on Sunday afternoons, putting on aprons. I thought nothing of this as they would come home from church, slip into an apron and start dinner.

Now, as an adult, I do not own an apron! lol Do you recall the usage of aprons being common?

Not only do I recall aprons being common ,they are common. (for me).
I just don’t feel dressed for housework without an apron on.
Sylvia, I know what you mean. A large pocket on my apron holds all sorts of things when I clean. As for baking, it is one of my favourite pastimes. Yes, I wear an apron for baking, it is a full apron that covers from neck to below my knees. I need something that covers all of my dress ,as I start kneading and mixing I tend to get a bit over zealous. I am in a group of 5 families that take turn providing lunch after church. The hostess provides the main meal and other ladies bring a plate. Because we do not change dresses for lunch most wear an apron while in the kitchen and serving.
